We’re knee deep in sugar free awesomeness. Are we loving it? We’re loving it.
We’re also big fat liars.
How’s everyone doing? Are you cranky? Do you have headaches? Do your ears hang low? Do they wobble to and fro?
It’s probably just me.
As a food blogger, it takes a lot for me to be sick of cooking. And I’m S I C K of cooking. What I wouldn’t give to grab something on the go, have food delivered, or just shove cake in my face.
I’m totally pumping you up, aren’t I? I should be a coach.
All joking aside, it’s been going well. This is my 3rd Fed Up Challenge and staying away from sweets never seems to be as hard as not having the white starches. Give me bread!
So here’s what I’ve been eating. Because you care, you really care.
Day 2
- Plain yogurt with fresh raspberries & Grape-Nuts cereal
- 2 pieces Ezekiel bread with cinnamon and raisins
- Colby jack cheese (yes, I was starving and just ate cheese right off the block!)
- Milk
- Gluten free pasta with chicken and onions
- Handful of grapes
Day 3
- 1 piece of Ezekiel bread cinnamon and raisins
- Cottage cheese w/sliced tomatoes sprinkled with salt & pepper
- 1 banana
- Roasted cashews
- Milk
- T-bone steak and these Lemon Garlic Roasted Potatoes with Herbs
- Handful of grapes
Day 4
- Ezekiel brand cereal w/milk
- Cottage cheese
- “No sugar added” apple sauce
- Cheese quesadilla on Ezekiel tortilla (don’t really like them, but wanted to avoid white flour)
- Leftover gluten free pasta w/chicken and onions
- Totally sugar free apple dessert (recipe coming!)
- 1 orange
Day 5 (not a lot – no wonder I was starving by dinner time)
- 2 pieces plain Ezekiel bread
- Handful of grapes
- Gluten free pasta with Victoria brand marinara sauce (yes, this brand is sugar free!)
How are you doing on the challenge? I love to hear updates from you. Hearing how you’re doing is almost as fun as eating Sprees. Almost.
MELANIE
Hi. I’m on day 20 of sugar-free but I’ve stalled in my weight loss. I have 4 pieces of fruit a day, some almonds, scrambled eggs x2 for lunch, either fresh fish or meat for dinner, vegetables, and then cream and full fat milk in my coffee (one a day, two max). I’m not cheating so what’s wrong?
The Kitchen Snob
Hi, Melanie! The sugar-free challenge isn’t really for weight loss, but you will usually lose weight anyway. When you say “stalled” what does that mean? Stalled for how long? Just curious.
ADam
Hello all. Just stumbled on this website and blog as I try to cut sugar from my diet, on about day 7 and more than anything I’m just hungry, not really craving sugar as such, just hungry! Problem is, the little snacks I think are good as they don’t contain sugar seem to be not too good for you in increased quantity, I.e. nuts being quite high in calories etc.
I’m also exercising and notice that your diet other than your main meal seems quite small, maybe I eat too much but you need more food when exercising so is there anything you recommended for this?
The Kitchen Snob
Hi Adam. I felt hungry, too. I think I normally eat bad, filling snacks when I start to feel hungry and finding healthy snacks with no sugar on the run was hard for me – so I ended up not eating as much. I’m not a fitness or nutrition expert, but I’d say not to worry so much about the excess nuts. I don’t know how many nuts we’re talking about here but I imagine eating more nuts is better for you than consuming sugars. What about adding some baby carrots or fruit to your diet when you’re hungry? Another thing I would eat (small amount) is cheese. Yes, higher in calories though. But if you’re exercising regularly and cutting out all added sugars and sugar substitutes, cut yourself some slack. Another tip – drink more water. I found by drinking more I felt less hungry. Hope some of this helps. Good luck!

I am so impressed to see you are sticking with it!!! I have such a hard time cutting out specific things and sticking with it. Such an inspiration to see you pushing through your challenge and being light hearted and positive about it! Way to go! Keep up the awesome work!
Sonia
I see that you have Grape Nuts on your list, but it’s made with malted barley flour. I see malted barley on the list of other names for sugar. Is malted barley FLOUR any different? Just wondering because I’m trying the challenge myself! Thank you!
The Kitchen Snob
That’s a very good question, Sonia. I noticed the Ezekiel bread has it, too. I’ve reached out to some people at the Fed Up Movie to see if I can get any clarification. I was told the Ezekiel was the best option but I’ll see what I can find out.
Sonia
Thank you! The only bread products I’ve found that do NOT have sugar products are Alvarado Street Flax Bread (only the flax bread product though — the rest have sugar), and La Tortilla Factory Olive Oil wraps in Rye.
It’s so hard to find products without sugars! Sheesh.

Yes, the cooking is kind of tiring. I ate ezekial bread with almond butter for dinner last night because I just did not want to cook. I have had one little cheat- a quarter tsp of stevia in my coffee in the mornings. You can take away my sugar but you will have to pry my coffee out of my cold, dead hand.
The Kitchen Snob
Hey Mariah. Nice to hear from you. Stevia no, say it isn’t so! 😉 Make sure there isn’t any sugar or sugar substitutes in your almond butter. (there is in mine). Well, try one morning to see if you can handle your coffee black. For me, it was hard not to put sugar in my tea. It tasted so bitter, but I did get used to it.
Mariah
I had a latte with no stevia this morning- surprisingly good.
